Katie Beardie is a Sailing Canoe inspired by the craft of the Victorian era and particularly the Clyde Canoe Club c1880.
The valiant members of the club sailed and paddled their canoes all round the Clyde Coast and The Hebrides during the 1870-80s.
Theirs were heavy clinker craft often built from larch or mahogany and with heavy steel or bronze centreplates.
Katie is designed to be built using the stitch and tape method from 4 - 6mm plywood. This makes her fairly simple to build and much lighter to handle.
At just under sixteen feet long and with a beam of 32inches she is very stable and able to carry an enormous amount of gear.
She is light enough to be carried on the roof of an average car.
