After I'd sold the Whilly Tern I was scouting around for another design. By this time I'd realised I would almost always be sailing single handed and wanted something that was easily handled both on the water and ashore. I'd seen Andrew Wolstenholme's own boat several times at Beale Par Boat Show usually being helmed by his daughter. I was attracted by the boat's lines and the Cat Gaff Rig which pushes the mast well forward leaving a surprising amount of room in an 11ft hull.
I spoke to Andrew and asked what was included in his plans; Plank Shapes? Shaped profiles? He told me that the plans were drawn with professional boatbuilders in mind and didn't give any planking information at all, this being left to the discretion of the builder. Well at 10 planks per side I could see the potential for totally stuffing this up so I was relieved to hear him say he was working with Alec Jordan to produce a CNC Kit for The Coot.
I walked over the field and spoke to Alec who I already knew through his involvement setting up the HBBR, and agreed to purchase kit No.2 from Jordan Boats. The rest as they say is History.
