Morbic 12 Sistership
designed by Francoise Vivier.
Having sailed the Coot for a few years at the annual DCA Cobnor Camp in Chichester Harbour I was beginning to think that she was a tad on the small side. Once there was a bit of wind against tide I always started to think she could do with just one more plank. I was also beginning to think I could do with a bit more buoyancy. Inflatable bags are all very well but I hankered after something more solid. So, after the usual prevarication I settled on Francoise Vivier's Morbic 12 design. I'd seen one or two in the flesh and was impressed, they seemed to offer exactly what I was looking for (this time around at least). I've said before that during the couple of years it usually takes me to build a boat I've often decided what I really want to build next. So the Coot was put on the market and sold away, initially to Dittisham on The Dart but latterly onward to another new owner who intends to sail on. Bristol Harbour.
A Morbic 12 Kit was duly ordered from Alec Jordan at jordanboats.co.uk/ and off we went on another building journey.
What's in a Name? Meanwhile outside the boatshed normal life was moving along apace, and by this time I was the proud Pappa to three lovely granddaughters who I wanted to encourage into this sailing life in a gentle non pressurised way. One way to give them ownership was to name the boat after them but without resorting to the practice of contriving something from Brooke Adriana and Dulcie which is why I decided on Sistership.
It seems to have worked.
The pictures tell the story.
